Autism Awareness Week 2023 “Sparkle on Spectrum”

American Psychiatric Association has used “Autism Spectrum Disorder” to replace “Pervasive Developmental Disorder” and name all kinds of Autism since 2023. As the spectrum consists of many colours, the concept of spectrum emphasizes the difference in ability, performance, and severity degree of symptoms between all autistic people.

In response to the “World Autism Awareness Day” on 2 April, Heep Hong Society used “Sparkle on Spectrum” as a theme to organize a series of public education events. Besides publishing comics of A+ family that represents the characteristics of people with Autism, a survey about the caregiver of autistic people, street interview, and sharing session about the characteristics of autistic people was also conducted, together with the news report and podcast about the thought and feelings of people with autism and their caregiver.
